OBITUARY

MRS M. FRANKLAND

The death occurred recently in Wellington of Mrs Miriam Frankland, second daughter of the late Mr and Mrs C. H. Symons, pioneer settlers of Foxton, and well known throughout the Manawatu. Mrs Frankland was one of 11 sisters and brothers, all of whom are dead, except Mrs Annie Toogood, of Wellington. She was married in 1879 to Mr F. W. Frankland one-time Government Actuary and Statist, and Life Insurance Commissioner. Mr Frankland, who was a philosophical writer, was the eldest son of Sir Edward Frankland, K.G.8., an eminent British chemist of the late nineteenth century. Mrs h rantland is survived by two sons, Mr b. Herston Frankland, of New York, and Mr Harold Frankland, of Mlington. A daughter, Ava, died at Wellington in childhood. There are five grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral took place at boxton Mrs Frankland being laid to rest in the family plot. Prior bo the cortege leaving a service was held at All Saints’ Church, Foxton, when Rev. Mr Datson paid a fine tribute to the services rendered to the _ Church bv Mr and Mrs Frankland during their residence in Foxton and expressed his sympathy with the bereaved relatives.'

MRS J. M. CORADINE, M.B.E. A well-known Masterton resident, Mrs J. M. Coradine, M.8.E., died recently at the age of 84 years. In recognition of her services as Mayoress of Masterton during the 19141918 war Mrs Coradine was awarded the M.B.E. She was a member of the Wairarapa Patriotic Associa= tion, founded in 1915, the Lady Liverpool Committee, the Women s National Welfare League, and the Masterton- Plunket Society, being at one time president of the society. For the past 27 years Mrs Coradine has at Christmas time distributed gifts to returned men from the First World War who are patients m the Wellington Hospital Of two sons, one was killed m tll « Great War.
