FRANCO GOVERNMENT

BRITAIN'S INTEREST

(Rec. 11.50. a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 27. The report from Paris that. Britain is unwilling to intervene in Spain's internal affairs for reasons of principle j is denied in London circles, says the Press Association's diplomatic correspondent. The British Government has accepted the French suggestion to examine the relations towards Spain jointly with America and it is not a question whether we wanted to get rid of the Franco regime, but of whether the departure of that regime would be accelerated by the rupture of diplomatic relations between Britain and Spain. Regarding economic pressure against the Franco Government, Britain, it is stated, would have to consider most carefully whether such methods would affect the Spanish people rather than the Franco Government.
