ELEVEN HANGED
BELSEN GUARDS.
JUSTICE FOR ATROCRITIES,
(Rec. 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 14, Josef Kramer, commandant of
the Belsen concentration camp, and ten of his guards were hanged yesterday at Hamlen, 100 miles south of Hamburg. The executions began at 9.30 a.m. and continued until 4 p.m.
The sentences were carried out by, Albert Pierrepoint, the official British hangman, who was brought from Brit- • ain especially for the executions. The official announcement states :' The executions were made in the following order: Elizabeth Volkenrath, Irma Grese, Juanna Bormann, Josef Kramer, Doctor Fritz Klein, K ar * F’renchich, Peter .Weingartner, -Anchor Pinchen, Franz Hoeszler, Wilhelm Dor, and Franz Stofel. Royal Engineers built the_ gallows. The men were hanged in pairs simultaneously while the women walked to their death 'klone. Armed British “Tommies” stood guard on the 15ft wall around the’ prison.
