USE OF GRATUITY

(Press Assn) WELLINGTON,,Dec. 14. Acknowledging complimentary references to the Government’s decision regarding the payment of gratuities, the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) speaking at a- Wellington It.S.A. gathering, said that, if individuals tried to collect at the same time the aggregate of £18,000,000 to which they were entitled, goods to purchase with the money would not be there. Such an action might lesult in a black market, or in their paying more for the goods than they should do. He emphasised that, unless the Government continued to receive not only the co-operation of the Returned Services Associations, but also, of their individual members in this’matter, the way ahead might be made more difficult, not necessarily for the Government but for the country.
