UNEASILY QUIET
SITUATION IN JAVA CONVOY MOVES FORWARD (N.Z. Press Association.—Copyright.) (Rec. 9.30 a.m.) BATAVIA, Dec. 14. Trouble centres in Java are quieter than they have been for some time. Indonesians are cooperating to a greater extent than hitherto.
However, the situation is described as uneasily quiet in a British military communique. More British troops have reached Java. Dr Van Mook has had unofficial talks with Indonesian leaders.
Allied Headquarters reports that the Indonesian Peace Preservation Corps is aiding the British in Bandoeng, and have assisted in clearing a road on which a British convoy was attacked recently by extremists. The convoy has again moved 1 forward with air support and an escort from the Indonesian Peace Preservation Corps.
