PAHIATUA
Eleven pupils from the Pahiatua District High School, nine of whom were boys, entered for the competition for prepared and impromptu speeches. The subjects covered a wide variety of personalities from King George VI to Field-Marshal Montgomery and Samuel Morse. L. Carroll, whose subject was Field-Marshal Montgomery, was the winner of both speeches, J. Lange was second and Pamela Harris third. Carroll also received two special prizes.'
