HOME SERVICEMEN

Song and story marked the second annual reunion of the Manawatu branch of the Home Servicemen’s Association, held on Wednesday, when there was a good attendance. Among those present were Messrs J. Hodgens, M.P., T. Perston (Dominion secretary of the association), G. M. Rennie (representing the Palmerston North R.S.A.), and Or. T. J. Heatley, Mr A. Smith (a member of the Dominion executive), and Capt. K.. G. Chamberlain.

When proposing the toast of the New Zealand It.S.A., Mr J. H. Millar extended his association’s thanks to that body for giving invaluable help when the Home Servicemen’s Association' was first being formed, and he attributed the association’s strength today to that timely assistance. Replying to a toast to Parliament, proposed by Mr A. Haines, Mr Hodgens said that in these troublous times it was refreshing to find an organisation of this kind, which was bent on helping its fellows, and lie advised the members to together and so outride any difficulties which might lie ahead. .

Mr Heatley thanked the association for the kind, thoughts expressed by Mr C. Port, when' proposing the toast of the .City Council, and on behalf of the City Council _Mr Heatley, extended every good wish for the luture. The .evening .was continued with musical and humorous items.
