OBITUARY
Mr Oscar Laughton, of Spur Road, polyton, who died on November 14 following an illness extending over many years, was well-known in the Feilding district, having been a sheepfarmer at Colyton for a considerable period. Notwithstanding his disability and painful illness, Mr Laughton bore his sufferings with commendable fortitude. Born at Wanganui, he was the fourth son of Mr and Mrs J. Laughton, of Wellington, and was educated at Christ’s College, Christchurch. He later interested himself in the land and for a .number of years worked for Mr Hocken, of Colyton. He was particularly skilled in the handling of horses, and his services were widely availed of for the breaking in of draught horses for farm work. Mr Laughton was of a retiring nature, and apart from his home his chief interest was in the Anglican Church, of which he was a devout member. Besides his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Messrs -S. Laughton (Wanganui) and F. Laughton (Palmerston North), while Mrs Fee, of Waihi, is a sister. Two brothers predeceased him. The funeral, which was of a private nature, took place at the Feilding Cemetery, Ven. Archdeacon F. H. Petrie officiating. The pall-bearers were Messrs N. Laughton, M. and N, Francis (nephews), • and H. W. Shepherd (cousin). Mrs Laughton has lived at Colyton practically all her life, her parents being the late Mr and Mrs P. C. Francis, of that settlement.
