FREAKS IN LAMBING

An unusual lambing event occurred on the farm of Mr L. 11.' iloldaway. Ballance. During birth, immense difficulty was encountered and after three hours' operation it was found necessary to kill the ewe. Upon cutting open the carcase to ascertain what the trouble had been, the discovery of a most peculiar form of Siamese-twin birth was made. With perfectly formed heads and limbs, two lambs had grown together with heads at: the opposite ends of the complete body, as also were the tails and hind legs. Tin- whole body was covered with one skin and had the, normal number of legs and two perfect heads. Although the freak had been alive at the first stage of birth, it died before the operation had been completed. There is some speculation as to how the animal could have walked—had it lived — with two heads urging it in different directions at, the same time.
