W.D.F.U.

When the quarterly meeting of the Manawatu provincial executive of the W.D.F.U. was held at Levin the news of the Japanese surrender had just come through and the meeting therefore opened with “God Save the King”, followed by members standing in silence in remembrance of those who had made the supreme sacrifice. A report of the recent Dominion conference was given by the president (Mrs Jenkins). This was followed by the rest homes report by Mrs S. Barber. The housekeeper secretary (Mrs Bartholomew) reported that the housekeeper position was a little easier, eight positions having been filled since the last meeting. The Dominion treasurer (Mrs McLeavey) also gave her report. Suggestions were given for the division’s 21st birthday celebrations. A three-minute talk was given by Mrs Walker, Otaki-Te Horo.
