RETURN OF WARSHIPS
CARRIERS IN SYDNEY HARBOUR (Rec. 12.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 24. Crowds lined Sydney’s foreshores earlv today to watch the arrival of ■units of the British Fleet which recently took part in the final assault on Japan. It was Sydney’s first chance during the war ol giving a fitting welcome to a naval task force fresh from battle. Five British warships arrived—two aircraft earners, the Implacable and the Formidable, escorted by the destroyers Undine, Urchin and Grenville—with Rear-Ad-
miral Yian in command. Shipping in the harbour greeted the warships with their sirens. Avengers an* Corsairs of the returning units landed at a New South Wales air station yesterday. Another 'British carrier. the Victorious, with the destroyer Urania, is due in Sydney this afternoon. All the shins have taken part in two big Pacific strikes, the fiist against the Saknshima group in May and the second against Japan itself. They have been at sea for three months.
