The Prime Minister has announced that the term of the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) is to be extended for one year.

Mr J. J. O’Shea was elected the first life member of the Terrace End Bowling Club, at its annual meeting last night, the president (Mr - IV. It. Chorrio) stating that Mr O’Shea, who was an old and valued member, had represented it on the Manawatu Bowling Centre for a number of years and had done splendid work. It was decided to send a letter advising Mr O’Shea of the honour and expressing appreciation of his services. He is at present in Tauranga for health reasons.

Mr J. J. Walker, who lias been dairy instructor for the past nine years for the Department of Agriculture in the Hawke’s Bay-Manawatu area, has been transferred to New Plymouth. During the week he was the guest of honour at a function given by the factory managers, secretaries and first assistants in factories in the area. Mr F. G. Brown (manager of the Kairanga Co-op. Dairy Coy., Ltd.), who presided over a large attendance, presented Mr Walker with an inscribed wristlet watch. He paid a tribute to the wide popularity enjoyed by Mr Walker and referred to his ability. His remarks were supported by several other speakers. In replying, Mr Walker encouraged those present to maintain their efforts to keep up the quality of the produce. He reviewed the progress made by the factories during his term here and thanked all concerned for their good wishes. Mr Walker will leave for New Plymouth on September 3. During the evening his successor, Mr J. B. WaiiKcott, of Hastings, was introduced.
