WORK AT AWAPUNI. (By “Spectator.”) With a big improvement in the condition of the tracks at Awapuni and the approach of spring meetings, the horses are now being sent along in their work although most of them are backward. '1 he poles on the course proper wore out about ftOft for the work this morning. Solver (A. Waddell; ran seven lurlongs in 1.44, the last throe in 43sec.

Tahli (Stevens), Speed King (Boreham; and Luclcy Lip (Sellars) were not after time when running livo furlongs, just breaking 1.15. Specialist (Beale), who is doing well, and Newel Post (Andrews) raced over half a mile in 57see.

The two-year-olds Gay Stroller (Broughton) and Essay’s younger brother dashed over three furlongs in 40 2-ssoc. In a similar trial, Controller (Andrews) registered 41 2-ssec. Caolus (Broughton) look 2.1 1-5 to run a mile, the last three furlongs in 45 1-5

Languo d’Or (Stevens), who continues to train on, galloped once round, increasing the pace trom the live-furlong peg home

A. C. Plummer’s pair, Sailor Boy (A. Waddell) and Bezany (S. Waddell), ran half a mile in 55«ec. and did it nicely. Dutch Mary and Pallas Athene moved freely in a three-furlong dash to register 43 2-ssee.

Flying Orders (Broughton) moved well when running half a mile in 57sec. Merger (Laker) and Omahina (A. Waddell) were on terms at the end of live furlongs run in 1.10. First Edition (Andrews) was sent once round the steeplechase course and jumped slowly but cleanly. Foxbrac (Jenkins) and School Tie (Rouso) were again companions over four hurdles and jumped well. Miss 11. Cfollinson’s grey two-vear-old Tndirea, by Nizami from Dignified, is a striking looking filly and is fairly forward. She cost her owner 430gns at the yearling sales. Broiefielcl is thriving on the tasks allotted him and looks a picture of health. A report from Gisborne states that Findon lias developed hock trouble and his future cower is in some doubt.

A. E. Didhain is anxious to take Royal Flight to Australia for the Caulfield Cup and, provided she does not receive a penally tor her success in the Winter Cup, she will make the trip. That good handicap performer Royal Lancer is in work at Riverton and has already done some jumping. Ho will probably have his next race as a hurdler. Arrangements are in hand to race the Riccarton three-year-old Brown Derby in the Wanganui Guineas. Ho is a very useful sort. It will bo remembered that the Riccnrton-trained Gulf Stream came north to win the Guineas when the contest was held at Martoti.
