KARITANE NURSES
(Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 20 Representatives of the National Service Department approached the Council nf the Plunket Society some months ago, said Mrs James Begg, president of the society, who is at present in Wellington, in a statement today. They wished that some manpower control should be extended to Karitane nurses so that the services of this trained group might be better utilised to help those mothers most in need of theii services. Jn the hope of being able to help mothers and at the same time safeguard the interests and health of the Karitane nurses, the council decided to set up bureaux in the main centres.
"This scheme was nearly ready to be put into operation, but it cannot lie denied that the announcement_in the Press on Friday of _ some lifting of the manpower regulations for girls over 30 years of ago may somewhat alter thoscope of the bureaux," said Mrs Begg, "and it is my intention to consult my executive immediately on my return to Dunedin. Following this a further announcement will be made to the Press at the earliest, possible date."
