RUGBY FOOTBALL
MANAWATU UNION.
Mr B. Palmer presided at the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Football Union, last evening, in the absence of Mr A. 11. Ongley. In connection with .the union's representations regarding the subsidy on primary school tournaments, the New Zealand Rugby Union advised that, as the number of these had increased, it had been decided that the subsidy on any one tournament should not exceed £25. It was not intended that the New Zealand Union should pay the cost of the various tournaments, and it was pointed out that in addition' to subsidies for tournaments £750 was paid to unions by way of school grants*. , ' 'Mr Palmer was appointed manager of the senior represent alive team to play Taranaki on Saturday and the representatives going to Hawkc's Bay on September 1. The manager of the Colls team to play at Levin on Saturday and the juniors to play Oroua on September 1 is M.r> L. Nicholson. The following fixtures % for Saturday were approved : Taranaki v. Manawatu Colts v. Horowhenua Colts at Levin The selectors (Messrs P. Skoglund and L. Mullins) have chosen the following Manawatu representative team to play Taranaki:—Full back. Brooker; threequarters, Potaka, McGougan, Butt; fivecighths, Giuteell and Cuff; half-back, Rdliii; forwards. Nichols. Mercer. Simmonds, Giinncll, Jacobscn, McCullimi, Morgan. Todd (capr.). Emergencies: Backs Stirling, Tocker; forwards, Rose, Cutler. Manawatu Colts to play Horowhenua Holts at Levin:—Full back, A. Yates; Miree-qunrtors, Collier, Armstrong, Franke; five-eighths, Harkness and Wilson, halfback To Whara; forwards, McNae, Black, Woods, O'Connor, Becker. Denton, McGarrie, Ostori. Emergencies: Backs, Aubrey, McKinnon ; forwards, Callaghan, Ilakaraia. The selectors were Messrs Nicholson and Kilpatrick. The team will travel by bus. leaving Palmer, ston North at 12.30 p.m.
