GIFTS FOR SOLDIERS.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—ln connection with a paragraph in your paper about patriotic grants, the Mayor (Mr Mansford) made a statement saying that Palmerston North was the only city making such a grant. Pie is entirely wrong; the city of Cbristchurch is still giving ail of her returned soldiers a gift of £5 from the patriotic funds. If the patriotic committee of Palmerston North saw fit to give 70 per cent, of her returned soldiers a gift of £5, why cut, out the. other 30 per cent.? J. don't think the people of Palmerstou North envy her returned men a five pound note.—Yours, etc., REP AT.
