Sister L. E. Taylor, of the Palmcrston North Hospital staff, has been granted ieaic during her service overseas with Unrra. The progress of the Otaki maternity hospital over the last five years was mentioned by Mr G. A. Monk when performing the reopening ceremony yesterday; He said that in ISHI ]7l patients had been admitted. In 1942 there had been 182 admissions, in 1943, 1-59, in 1944, 180 and so far this year 100. Successful Palmerston North entrants in the Wellington Competitions Society's annual festival, which opened on Saturday, were Maureen Dixon, who gained third place in the skipping dancu, VI years and <m»i, and third. equal in the poetic or classic barefoot dance, under 16'; and Cecily Jones, who was placed second in the character dance, open, 16 years and over. Miss E. Stuart, supervising sister at the Stratford Hospital, has been appointed to a similar position at the Jfulmorstoh North Hospital. Sister Stuart is a trainee of the Palmerston North Hospital, and for the past five or six years has been gaining experience in all branches of nursing in England, fell* r*w«.ntly returned from overseas, and will take up her duties on August 25. The Women's War Service Auxiliary has given up further vegetable-growing activities at the Sportsground and has passed the ground (about an acre) back to the City Council. The council has received a letter extending thanks for the use of the ground and the auxiliary's appreciation of the assistance given by the city curator (Mr P. Black). In the course of their occupation of the plot, about three years, the auxiliary produced a large quantity of vegetables.
