STREET DAY ALLOCATION

Representing the Manawatu branch of the Crippled Children Society, a deputation waited on the City Council, last evening, asking that the branch be granted a street day in October. The president (Mr H. M. Scott) said the branch had always had its street day in that month and had looked to this as the main source of its income in the Manawatu. Mr A. Grigor supported the remarks of Mr Scott. The Mayor (Mr Mansford) explained that the society had not applied for a street day when applications had been called for, and the council had understood that an application from the Commercial Travellers' Association had included the society. On the motion of the Mayor, who said the council was most desirous of helping the society, the subject was referred to the next meeting of the works committee. The Mayor said the council had decided previously that there be only one street day each month.
