FEILDING
Mr G. L. EwHi, of Feilding, who has been ill, has now been discharged from hospital, it was reported at a meeting of the Manawatu Catchment Board, of which he is a member. The board decided to write to Mr Ewen wishing him an early and complete restoration of health. The Palmerston North Hospital Board has secured the services of Mr \V. Utting to do the draughtsmanship for the proposed Feilding maternity home and he will commence duty on September 3. At the monthly meeting of the board, yesterday, it was decided to call tenders for the work of levelling and preparing the site, which could proceed while the plans were being completed. "In connection with the delay which has taken place," said the managingsecretary (Mr A. J. Phillipps), "in fairness to the officers of the board, who are concerned in this matter, 1 would point out that since May, when we received an indication from the Director-General of Health that the layout which has been prepared would be accepted for this work, we have not had staff available to do other than get the Otaki work completed in accordance with the urgency of the situation which arose at Otaki, following on the fire. On a job the size of the Feilding maternity home, after the sketch plans are approved by the department it cannot be anticipated that the whole of the draughting and necessary work which would absorb in the ordinary course architect's fees and services to the value of over £IOOO can be completed within a matter of; weeks. It should also be mentioned that the contract time for the completion of this building will probably require to be eight months."
