R.N.Z.A.F. CORSAIRS STRIKE

(R.N.Z.A.F. Official News Service.) (1 |).m.) BOUGAINVILLE, Aug. 6. The principal offensives against the enemy in Southern Bougainville are at present being launched from the air. The lull continues on the main Australian front, activity being confined to infantry patrols, who are clashing frequently with infiltrating parties of Japanese. Meanwhile New Zealand Corsairs, taking advantage of the fine weather, are delivering a series of swift blows against Japanese targets forward of the Australian front line. One of the most successful attacks was Saturday's raid on Kikibatsiago, when 2d Corsairs wiped out three-quarters of the buildings in the area. In all 102 tons of bombs have been dropped in the last two days. In Northern Bougainville Australian ground forces continue to engage the enemy. Further gains were made and many Japanese were killed when Australian troops advanced and occupied an enemy position in the northern sector after heavy bombing by Corsairs and Australian mortar and artillery fire. The enemy is reported to have resumed the laying of land mines.
