Among those who gained commissions in the first all-New Zealand O.C.T.U. held overseas was Secmid-Lieutenant A. T. Fletcher, son of Mr and Mrs L. W. Fletcher, of the sub-station at Shannon, and formerly of Levin. After the conclusion of the present sitting of the Court of Appeal in Wellington Mr Justice Fair, who for several years has been a resident in Auckland, will transfer to Wellington, and Mr Justice Cornish will take his place as one of the resident Judges in Auckland.

The death occurred yesterday of one of Southland's early pioneers, Mr Mortimer Hishon. He celebrated his 100th birthday 'last October. Born in County Limerick, Ireland, in 1844, Mr Hishon went to Southland 82 years ago from the goldfields in Victoria. He spent 10 or 12 year* in Southland, and South Otago and in 1874 took up a farm at Centre Bush, and after nearly 50 years there retired to live in Invercargill. In the final draft of ministerial appointments approved by the Methodist Conference, Rev. C. Eaton, at present at St. Paul's, Palmerston North, goes to Feilding as supply. .'Rev. H. Spencer has been appointed to the Sanson-Rongotea parish and Rev. W. T. Blight, at present at Feilding, goes to Ashburton. The home missions appointments include that of Rev. T. Coats-worth to the Foxton-Shannon station. Tlie death has occurred in his 80th year of the famous British physician, Lord Dawson of Penn. Only a few days ago he was called in consultation over the illness of Lord Lloyd George. Lord Dawson became physician to King Edward VII in 190/ and was also pliysician later to King George V and King George VI. Dtiring the last i'llness of King George V it was Lord Dawson who composed the famous message: •\i he King's life is moving peacefully towards its close."
