STARVATION IN ITALY
U.S. PROMISE NOT KEPT. NEW YORK, Jan. 4
"Thousands of Italians are literally dying of cold and starvation before your eyes," said Mrs Clare Boothe Luce, Republican member of Congress, who recently returned from Europe.
She said that, while the starvation situation was inevitable, more relief could be brought in from the outside if the international situation were better handled. The United States had failed to adhere to its promise of 300 grammes of food daily for the Italians. Steps should be taken to help the Italians to feed themselves by freeing trucks and railway cars.
