ALLIED STATEMENT SOON CRITICS. IN - IGNORANCE (N.Z. Press Association.—Copyright.) (Ilec 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 4. Mr Churchill and President Ttoosevelt will shortly make a joint Ueclaration on the future of Italy, said Mr Harold MacMillan at a Press conference in Rome today, reports the Exchange Telegraph Agency's correspondent. "I look forward confidently to complete agreement," Mr MacMillan said.

He added that few appreciated the difficulties in Italy. Many critics who had not seen or had only briefly visited the liberated territories did not realise the position. "We need patience and perseverance in dealing with Italy," he said, "but whatever -we do for Italy it is nothing to what the Italians can and must do for themselves."
