SECOND FRONT ATTACK

SEAMEN VOLUNTEER. LONDON, Jan. 1

Every seaman in Britain’s merchant navy has volunteered to participate in a second front attack, except less than 100 who are medically unfit, states the Daily Express in' recalling, that the men were recently circularised asking if they agreed" to a special clause being inserted in all articles to the effect that they volunteered to serve in the event of an invasion. Mr O Jarman, secretary of (he Seamen’s Union, said that be bad received hundreds of letters saying: “Why aro we being asked? It’s nil in a day’s work.” Mr Jarman said“ Our lads do not regard this as a special occasion.” The Daily Telegraph says that most of the coastal vessels will be used first owing to the shallow waters of small continental harbours. When a bridgehead has been formed, the Merchant Navy will follow with supplies. Bigger ships will follow with more mon when tho channels are cleared.
