GERMAN SAILORS

RESCUED FROM SEA. LONDON, Jan. 1

The Irish ship Kerlogue has picked up in the Atlantic 164 German naval men and landed them at Queenstown.

The British cruisers Glasgow and Enterprise have returned to port after the fight in the Bay of Biscay. The only damage to the Enterprise was a wireless aerial shot away. The damage to the Glasgow was somewhat more severe. It was stated that the Glasgow was attacked by what appeared to be glider bombs which were dropped from German planes flying sis low as 1000 ft. Further information on the sinking of the Seharnhorst shows that the tiro from the Duke of York was most effective, says an Admiralty statement. An underwater hit scored by the Duke of York slowed up the Seharnhorst, enabling one of tho dcstroyor force to roach a position from which she could attack. Shortly afterwards another of our destroyer force also attacked. Tho damage inflicted by these destroyer attacks in turn enabled the Duke of York to close the range, and then the action was soon over.
