BOXING

(Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 27. In a heavyweight boxing contest at Wellington on Saturday, Lance-Corporal D. Mullett knocked out M. Strickland in the fifth round 4 when Mullett went right after his man and Strickland needed all his defensive skill. Forced against the ropes Strickland was obviously in trouble, but by claiming and weaving he staggered along. His greatest mortification was that be was unable to hurt Mullett no matter what ho hit him with. Two heavy punches sent Strickland down twice, the first time for seven, and the second for good.
