HEAVILY ATTACKED
NEW GEORGIA ISLAND
ENEMY LOSES 24 PLANES LONDON, Dec. 25. The American air force based on Guadalcanal has struck again at the Japanese on New Gcogia Island, and has bombed Munda airfield for the 14th day running. In endeavouring to intercept the American planes the Japanese had 140 of their machines shot down and another 10 were destroyed on the ground. Tho Americans also silenced antiaircraft batttJies and 6trafed Japanese installations. Later in tho day' tho Americans returned and bombed barges landing reinforcements at Munda. They also attacked the airfield from a low level. On this occasion the enemy offered no resistance.
