WOMEN’S WORLD
(By “Nanette.”)
Mr and Mrs J. Knight, of Newbury, are visiting Christchurch. Mrs Roosevelt on Saturday visited Bristol, where she inspected the first club for coloured American troops to be opened in England and saw war damage in the city. Later she visited a Midlands aircraft factory.
Girls with special'educational qualifications in mathematics, physics, and science are urgently required for the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, the Minister for Defence (Mr Jones) states. They are required for training in meteorology, radio location, and other special duties. A London cable says that the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have made a statement to the effect that they wish it to bo known, after consultation with the bishops generally that no woman or girl should hesitate to enter church with her head uncovered, nor should any objection to her so doing be raised. The Bishop of Wellington (Rt. Rev. H. Holland) said yesterday that modification of the customary rule that women should not enter church with their heads uncovered had not yet been considered in New Zealand. The question -was one for the bishops to decide and it was probable that in time the English example might be followed.
