ARMED FORCES APPEALS
A sitting of the Palmerston North Armed Forces Appeal Board was held in Palmerston North on Saturday, Air • L. Scddon presiding with Messrs J. U Young and W. Sutherland. Mr H. J. Worthington represented the Crown. The following cases were adjourned sine die- A E. Brown, farm-hand, appeal by 11. Coker, Linton (Mr Cooper); J. A. Kilsby, farmer, Ohau (Mr Cooper) R. Griffin, farmer, Oliakca (Mr Cooper); I. J Devonshire, cheese factory assistant, appeals by Mrs Devonshire (Mr T'ltzherbert) and Bainesso Dairy Coy., Ltd., D M Mclntyre, cheese factory manager, appeal by Baincsse Dairy Coy (Mr Laurcnson); J. B. I'cnn, refrigerating engineer, appeal by General Machinery t'nv • E 11. Bennett, seedsman, Palmcrston'’ North; D. 11. James, E. L. S. Tinker) C. Turnbull, W. N. Edgar, permanent fireman, and T. A. Ncsbit, and j ]T. Ncsbit's auxiliary firemen. Other decisions were: H. H. Young, eheosemaker, appeal by Bamceso Dairy Gov. (Mr Laurcnson), not to he called before February 15, 1943; W K Erhon. truck driver, appeal by . In ‘ crna ''' Harvester Coy., adjourned to March sittings; F. L. Cofislctt, carpenter, A. H. Cosfilctt, foreman carpenter, E A. Groves, carpenter, G W Travers builder’s machinist, appeals by Bodoll and Cov Ltd., adjourned to the January sittings. Eight ’men were appealed for by the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board and all the appeals wore adjourned wne die after considerable evidence had been hoard, the names being: E. F. C. Bainbridge (linesman), E. R. Halberg (linesman), E. L. Bowater (inspector ami serviceman), E. I • • , ' / ' n ‘ cell (linesman), F. Powell (ganger linesman), C. IL Stevens (serviceman and sub-station operator), C. W. Smith (inspector) and H. A. Williams (linesman). In respect of the lastnamed, the chairman said no difference could be seen between the duties of reservist and most of the others; the board appreciated reservist’s wish to serve in t u. Forces, but in the national interest it was considered that he should remain in his civilian occupation, in the meantime, in any case. Reserved decisions were- D G. McLennan, bank officer, appeal by Bank of . Australasia, Ltd (Mr Cooper), to which appeal reservist objected, giving evidence that he had at bis own expense brought bis medical grading to that of A; dismissed, not to be caked up before the end of February, 1943. K. J. Morgan and 11. Crosean, tractor drivers, appeals by IX Kernoban, Longhurn: neither to be called up before .A larch. 1943. S. E. Kent clerk, appeal hv Mannwatu County Connell; adjourned to December, exhaustive advertising to be undertaken in the meantime to” find a replacement, male or female, the view being expressed that a substantial salary ean bo offered. h.
