PAHIATUA

Numerous women’s organisations formed a guard of honour for Mrs T. F. E. Elliott, mother of the local V.C., Sergeant Keith Elliott, when she was thp guest at an afternoon gathering. The function was arranged by the W.W.S.A., and the president, of that organisation (Mrs H Patorson) welcomed Mrs Elliott and her daughters. Mrs Patorson spoke of the high degree of valour required to win such a distinction as the V.C. Apologies for absence were received from Captain and Mrs S. K. Siddells and Envoy barnworth, and speeches were made by several representatives of organisations m the district. Musical items were rendered by the Women’s Institute glee singers (conducted by Mr J. J. Boagcy) and Mrs I Boyens (accompanied by Rev. W. E Moore). Mrs Elliott was obviously moved by the tributes paid to herself and her son, and said she would convey them to him when next she wrote. She voiced appreciation on hia' behalf saying that he did not want a fuss. If his deed had rnado Pahiatua prSud he would bo happy.
