COLLISION WITH BIRDS
(Rcc. 2.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 6. The Air Ministry News Service reports that when Mosquitoes-of the Bomber Command made their lowlevel attack at dusk on Tuesday on a factory and power station near Heugelo, about 100 miles inland from the Dutch coast, they flew so low across Holland that they could clearly see men and women in villages and on the roads. They were net challenged by aircraft or flak, but one machine was forced to turn back after a collision with a flock of birds. Its windows were smashed and members of the crew were badly cut by glass. The pilot, who momentarily lost control, returned home. The others went on and bombed the factory and power station. Debris was flung up by the explosions, and flames and smoke were seen coming from the objectives.—Official "Wireless.
