MILK ZONING.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Some of us have now been included in a zone which will have bottled milk. This milk is considerably dearer and will swell the already increased family budget by £2 5s a year at the least. Most of us cheerfully accept the war-time measure, although in some cases “our” milkmen have been calling for years. Can you through your columns inform us whether we arc compelled to pay more than others for our supply?— I am, etc., IMPOSITION.
When the above letter was referred to the chairman of the zoning committee ho stated . that the position was that the bottling of milk was carried out for the protection of tho public. Actually, the expense involved was ver3’ considerable and this brought about the increase over the charge of 6d per quart for loose milk. It was recognised that there would be an injustice to those who wished to buy loose milk. The matter was being referred again to Mr H. M. Christie (zoning officer for the. North Island) to sec whether customers could receive loose milk, where they so desired, from a vendor who customarily sold bottled milk only.
