GRIM STRUGGLE IN RUSSIA BIG SOVIET HAUL. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (11 a.m.) RUGBY, March 25. The grim struggle in llussia continues with unabated ferocity. A special Soviet communique states that in the period from March 9 to March 23 our units operating on the Leningrad front captured six guns, eight tanks, 90 trench mortars, 424 machine-guns. 1600 rifles, 6000 shells and much otner booty.

It is reported from London that the Red Army continues to take the offensive and has wiped out several defence posts. On the southern front a battle is taking place for a. town called "S," with bitter fighting. In the Smolensk region the Soviet forces have captured a key defence post and are still driving westward. The Soviet forces arc getting closer still to Staraya Russa and the trapped 16th German Army, and are almost in the town itself.

A Washington report says: The Polish Premier (General Sikorski) conferred with President Roosevelt, alter which he told the Press that he had stressed the necessity for fullest aid being given to Russia. The question of supplies for the Polish divisions serving in Russia, he said, also had been taken up.
