BRAVERY IN AIR
D.F.C. FOR FLT.-LT. SUTTON. (Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 25. Air Headquarters, Wellington, announce that the following jNow Zealand air personnel serving overseas have received awards. —Distinguished Flying Cross: Fiight-Lieut. K. R. Sutton, R.A.F., and Flight-Lieut. A. E. Berry, R.A.F. Distinguished Flying Medal: Sergeant B. S. Wipiti, R.X.Z.A.F . and Pilot-Officer (iormerlv Sergeant) C B. Wareham, 11.N.Z.A.F. Flight-Lieut. Sutton was born in Wellington and educated at the Palmerston North Boys' 'High School. He was a member of the civil reserve of pilots, having trained at the Middle Districts Aero Club. Palmerston North. After his appointment to the Royai New Zealand Air Force and further training at Wigram, be relinquished his appointment to take up a short service commission in the R.A.F. in January, 1939. His next-of-kin is bis father, *Mr A. Y. Sutton ot Palmerston North. Flight-Lieut. Berry has no official papers at Air Headquarters Wellington.
Sergeant Wipiti's citation states: "He carried out a large number ot operational flights against the enemy and has displayed outstanding courage and determination wbiLt engaging large formations ot enemy aircraft. He has set a fine example to all. Sergeant Wipiti comes from New Plymouth. Pilot-Officer Wareha'm's citation states.: "He carried out many longdistance photographic reconnaissance sorties often in bad weather. He obtained much valuable information of enemy targets and displayed great skill keenness and courage." PilotOfficer Wareham belongs to Kaikoura.
