The late Mr Arthur Selby, whoso death occurred in Auckland last week at the age of 97, came to New Zealand with his family at the age of 39. "With, another Englishman, Mr Selby took up a block of 1000 acres near Eketahunia and remained there for eight years. In 1893 he settled at Otahuhu.

Mr J. F. Northey, at present a sergeant in His \ Majesty's Forces, was admitted as a barrister and solicitor to the Supreme Court of New Zealand at Auckland by Mr Justice Johnston, on the motion of Mr Julius Hogben. Mr Northey is a son of Mr and Mrs S. G. Northey, of Palmerston North.

Lieut.-Colonel A. A. Grace, one of the foremost authorities on Maori mythology and author of many books, itas died in Nelson at the age of 74. He was the youngest son of Rev. T. E. Grace, who arrived in New Zealand in 1850 and served for the remainder of his life as a C.M.S. missionary to the Maoris in Taupo and the Bay of Plenty. One of the best-known public men in the Dominion, Mr C. J. Talbot, died at Fairlie yesterday at the age of G 9. His career covered a remarkable range of public activities. He was a member of Parliament for Temuka from 1914 to 1918, chairman of the Counties' Association, a member of the Main Highways Board and the National Patriotic Council, chairman of the Timaru Man-Power Committee, Past Grand Master of the Oddfellows and a former chairman of the Mackenzie County Council- He also served on many public bodies in South Canterbury,
