Private advice was received in Martor yesterday of the death of Mrs J. Veitch at Ghatswood, Sydney. The late Mrs Veitel was horn in Marton and was the eldest daughter of tho laic .Mr and Mrs F. Hunt, of Mnrton. The late Mrs Veitch married Mr J. Veitch, who followed the occupa tion of a painter in Marion for a nutuhet of years before leaving for Sydney about 35 years ago. The executive committee of the Marton branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association on Monday night decided to support the action taken by headquarters with re pard to conscientious objectors, particularly their suggestion that some alternative form of service at military rates of pay should he given to those whose appeals were allowed. Mr G. Ib Gregory presided. Messrs Gregory and G. Denbow were appointed a sub-committee to represent, the R.S.A at a meeting to be called by the Mayor to make arrangements for meeting invalided returned soldiers from overseas travelling by train through Marton. In a hockey match Kia Ora beat the Maori Girls’ College by 5 goals to 2 In a eribhage match on Monday South Makirikiri beat a Marton bowlers’ team by 45 games to 27. Tho Marlon Miniature Rifle Club's A team were beaten on their own range in a shoot against the Sanson A team on Monday night, but the 13 team proved too good for the visitors. A return table tennis malcli between teams representing tho Lutheran and Methodist Clubs was won by the Lutheran Club by 55 games to 26. Tho best scores in tho Hawkcston Ladies’ Golf Club’s modal round were: Mrs Ball, Miss Males 84, and Mrs Williams 85.
