A RECORD YEAR.
INVESTMENTS AT AVONDALE. (Press Assn.) AUCKLAND, July 22. A record year of totalisator investments and the number of horses starting was reported at the annual meeting of the Avondale Jockey Club- 'lax paid to the Government amounted to £26 951 and taxation from all sources The president (Mr J. E. Wells) said the totalisator turnover for the year amounted to £287,508. Record stakes were distributed, totalling £M,070. \t the Cup meeting, in September, 209 horses started and the totalisator turnover was £107,111 a record for the club. The spring meeting turnover was £77,15-1 and the number of starters 189, The autumn meeting m April last was a record for the meeting, the totalisator returns be in g £ and the number of starters 207.
