The Harrier Club’s Webb Shield on Saturday was won by Whittaker; in the senior event J. Haycock won the Cobbo Shieid. While playing in a junior football match at Johnston Park on Saturday afternoon, Alfred Sporle. son of Air and Airs O. C. Sporlc, had the misfortune to fracture botlt bones near the shin in his right leg. Aftei an X-ray examination yesterday ho was taken to his home. No signs of frost were to be seen in Feilding this morning, though the temperature for some hours last night reached freezing point. Fortunately, it is - seldom necessary to use a stretcher for llip transport of injured footballers at Johnston Park, but on Saturday a serious accident occurred and there was no stretcher available. Part of a picket fence was requisitioned, but it was found 100 cumbersome and finally the injured player was placed in the back seat of a car and taken into tbo town. Two bones in his right leg were fractured and preliminary first aid was given by mem bers of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, who improvised splints from a picket from I another fence. The need for equipment ' was thus strikingly manifested.
