CONVENT SCHOOL.

There was a very large attendance in the Parish Hall on Monday, when the children of St. Joseph's Convent School gathered for their annual fancy dress ball, a colourful scene being presented. Among the highlights was the "Maypole," danced by twelve little girls* in emerald green and white and the "Wedding of the Painted Doll," while other items much appreciated were the girls' and boys' drill and "Ob, Dear, AVhat Can the Matter be." ltev-. Father Broughton thanked all who had helped to make the function the success it was. To Mesdamcs Jarrett and Michael, who were responsible for training the children, he extended his thanks and congratulations on the splendid results achieved. On behalf of tho pupils he asked them each to accept a small gift, while tho two ladies were also the recipients oi bouquets at the hands of senior girls as a token of appreciation Irom the school committee. Mr T. Kelly, who orfanUod the ball, was also made a small gift from the children. Supper was served bv tho ladies' committee, after which * Father Christmas apI pea red with sweets, much to the children's delight, and read them a telegram announcing a holiday on Tuesday.
