ITALIAN JACKAL
PARTICIPATION PROBABLE. LITTLE DEFINITE NEWS. (United Press Association —Copyright) (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 9.38 a.m.) RUGBY, May 30. The situation in Crete shows no improvement, according to competent commentators in London, but there is no further news of the actual fighting, as communications have become very difficult. It is not unlikely that the German wireless claims to have occupied Suda Bay and Heracliori are true. It is also probable that, as claimed in both the German and Italian reports, some Italians have been landed. This would he due to two motives—first political and, second, the natural habits of the jackal. An R.A.F. Middle East communique i states that R.A.F. bombers attacked j the Gorman-occupied island of Scar-j panto on the night of May 28-29. A j largo mini tier of bombs fell on the landing ground and caused a big fire i and explosions. One explosion threw | flames GOOft high. It is officially stated in Berlin that the Luftwaffe sank two British destroyers off Crete on Thursday.
