George Raft, as hard-boiled Joe Fabrini, who could take his women or leave them finds that it isn't so easy to leave a certain flaming redhead, played by Ann Sheridan. She is a fiery waitress at a roadside cafe whore she slings out hash and wisecracks with equal ability. But Raft's heart melts when he discovers that her flippancy hides a loyal and sincere character. His brothor, played by Humphrey Bogart, gets into an accident which costs him his right arm. .Toe is then forced to ask a friend of his portrayed by Alan Hale, for a job. Joe's troubles start anew when Ida Lupino, as Hale's wife falls in love with him and fails to take notice when he treats her coldly. The years' most sensational film climax occurs when Lupino executes a vicious p.an to murder her husband and win Joe. In addition to the splendid starring cast, the supporting roles are handled by such popular screen favourites as Roscoo Karns, John Litcl, and Joyce Compton. Raoul Walsh directed the fast-paced film and those two prolific screen writers, Jerry Wald and Richard Macaulay, wrote the scenario from a novel by A. I. Bczzeiides.
