■\t the monthly meeting of the Jakaro Progressive Association. Mr E. H. Smith presided. The position of chairman of the Havelock Town Board for several years, member of tho YVairau Licensing Committee and Government nominee on the Havelock Harbour Board, were amongst some of tho 1 jobs lie had held in the past. He had also been connected executively with most sports bodies in the Marlborough district. At, the present time he was actively connected with sports bodies in Palmcrston North and bad been so for some years. more particularly bowling and hockey. He bad been for a considerable number of years a Justice of the Peace and was still. Aliovc all. being now retired from business, ho , felt ho could devote tho time required to carry out the duties of a councillor. iTt was decided to forward letters to tho West End and Terrace End Associations asking for the support of Mr Smith's candidature.
