Y.W.C.A. CONVENTION
The bm-iiio-rt of I tie seventh national triennial convention ol tlie Y.W.C.A. commenced on Wednesday afternoon in .Auckland after I lie official welcome in the morning, Miss Ethel Law (national general secretary), in a review of the work of the past three years, referred to the growth in membership, particularly among the younger girls' groups. A reception to the delegates w;ir< held in the evening, the being the Auckland president (Air? Hudfl) and the hoard of directors. A dramatic entertainment was presented by girl members of the Auckland association.
''The y.W.C.A. as a Christian Woman's Movement" was the subject of discussion at yesterday morning's meeting of the convention. Mrs P. (,'. Davie, of New Plymouth, \va<? in tlio chair. The meeting broke tip into discussion groups,, after which all niaierial was laid before the convention. Subjects discussed were the membership of the association, the opportunity given for developing the leadership qualities of women members, and the question of what incentive and training for service in the community the association offered. Members also discussed what characteristic thing was offered by the Y.W.C.A. that was different from that offered by other women'- organisations, and whether members upheld Christian principles. The following were the discussion leaders: Mrs C. A. Small (Palmerston North), Mrs B. IT. Gilmour (Christchurch). Mrs J. R. Fairbairn (Blincdin), Miss M. Jones (New Plymo.illi), Mis= A. Kennedy (Auckland).
