PLANES IN SYRIA
GERMAN BOMBERS ARRIVE. (Rec. 2.25 p.m.) LONDON, May 15. It is authoritatively estimated in Cairo that German planes crossing to Svria number about thirty. Reports ascribed to Jerusalem that 120 German bombers have arrived at Mosul are unconfirmed and another unconfirmed report states that German sup-ply-ships have reached Syria with arms, hut it is pointed out that Germany had seven supply ships in the Aegean Sea. General Dentz (Governor of Syria) on May 12 asked Vichy what* attitude he should take in the event of German planes landing at Syrian air bases, hut it is unknown whether he received a reply. Certainly, be has taken no action to prevent the landings. British sources said that most of the planes landed at Aleppo, whereafter they were distributed to other airfields at various places about the country. They were mostly bombers and not troop-carriers. The 'planes bore French markings.
