ASSAULT ON CRETE
BIG ATTACK- FORESEEN. (Ttec. p.m.) LONDON, May 16. The Istanbul correspondent of the Times states that reports from various sources indicate the imminence of a large-scale attacJl on Crete with combined operations by the Luftwaffe and Italian navy and landing forces launched from the Dodecanese, Cycladco. and Peloponnesus. Major-General B. C. Freyberg, formerly in command of the New Zealand troops, has been entrusted with the defence of Crete.
