MAN'S REMARKABLE ACT
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 24. "He went to an undertaker to arrange for the burial of his mother, who is still alive," said Sub-Inspector Pender, when Archibald Cooper Benson, aged 40, a carpenter, pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to obtain £1 from an undertaker b- false representations. The sub-inspector said Benson told the undertaker he had £SO, but no money with him, and asked for a loan of £1 to send telegrams to relatives. The undertaker made inquiries and declined the request. Benson was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour, and on a second charge of failing to make maintenance payments in favour of his four children was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
