“THE MESSIAH.”

Tho first rehearsal of the Palmerston North Centennial Choral Union, was held in the Congregational Church schoolroom on Alonday, under the direction of the conductor (Air J. Holmes ltunnicles). An attendance of 136 voices, with numerous apologies lor absence, foreshadowed a huge chorus for the production of the oratorio “The Alessiah,” possibly the largest ever seen in Palmerston North. At the close of the rehearsal the lion, secretary (Air A. Charles) announced that tho campaign for the enrolment of sflbseribers, commenced only a few days ago, had resulted in a total to date of 75, a result which foretold that not only would the desired number (200) be obtained, but a good many more. Altogether the prospects for the production of “The Messiah” are exceptionally good, it is stated, and promise well for the augmentation of the local patriotic funds.
