TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

COOKING COMPETITIONS. . The annual dinner cooking competitions are at present in progress at the Palmerston North Technical School, and the number of entries is even larger than last year’s. The girls plan a three-course dinner consisting of soup, meat and vegetables, and a sweet, buy the materials, prepare, cook and serve the meal, and wait at table, receiving points for each section. Points are also given for keeping the kitchen in order throughout and clearing the table. Juniors are allowed 6s 6d with which to provide a dinner for six people and seniors 7s 6d, and a cost sheet has to be made out. There are 40 entries. The competition has been in progress for two weeks and will continue for approximately another two weeks. The judges are Mrs M. Aitcliison and Miss M. Cook, and entries are divided into six classes, covering cooking, by gas, coal and electricity. There are nine entries in the section. Prizes donated by the City Council and various firms are awarded in each section. The school dinners and cafeteria service is still carried on.
