VOICE OF DOUBT
GERMAN PRESS VIEW. "1 SIGNIFICANT STATEMENT. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 12.45 p.m.) BASLE, Oct. 8. For the first time since the outbreak of the war a German newspaper mentions the possibility of the Axis Powers being unable to win the war. The Allgemeine’ Zeitung says that even in a 'hypothetical case of the Axis being unable to end war successfully Great Britain on no account would be able to annihilate Germany and Italy. The German campaign against the British Premier, Mr Winston Churchill, reached a climax to-day with all the newspapers carrying headlines to the effect that Britain has one possibility of saving 'herself, namely, ousting Mr Churchill from office. The Basler Nachriditen’s Berlin correspondent interprets the campaign as part of the decision arrived at in the recent meeting in the Brenner Pass of the dictators to end U lO war at any price.
