INDOCHINA’S PLIGHT.
JAPANESE OVERSTEP MARK. (Rec. 9.40 a.m.) HANOI, Oct. 8. Japanese officials said they might find it necessary, to utilise additional Indo-China aerodromes. They also hinted that they' might request JndoChina to grant the Japanese army a “credit loan” to support the armed forces in Indo-China. The Japanese have already concentrated 40 planes at Hanoi, also a garrison estimated at 600 mechanised troops. They are at present stringing military communication lines through the Hanoi streets and have also laid a cable in Haiphong harbour. French officials admitted the Japanese were overstepping the original terms of the agreement, bringing the entire Kingdom of Tongking under Japanese control. Tt is authoritatively' stated that the Vichy Government is retiring all five of the French generals in Indo-China and that the replacements are arriving via the United States. A ruling requiring, a lower age of retirement is responsible for this action.
